To the Lighthouse
2024
Single channel video and sound piece
Duration: 20 minutes, 8 seconds
To the Lighthouse is a site-specific performance and video piece that explores the artist’s connection to Provincetown Harbor, where she spent summers at her grandfather’s home directly across from Long Point Light. Nine years ago, her family scattered his ashes in the waters off of the beach. In this work, the artist revisits the site to reconnect with her grandfather and the memories tied to the harbor.
Here, the act of the coming and going of tide and surf functions as an opportunity to investigate cycles of both water and life itself. Among the water where her grandfather’s ashes were released, the artist reflects upon the ephemeral nature of presence and absence, a study into loss, grief, remembrance, and renewal.
